THE SOUTH SEA FACE CHAIN
 
A sculptural study of the face from the PLAID-À-PORTER × LüSchwarz collaboration.
The South Sea Face Chain transforms the traditional language of pearl jewellery into an intimate, almost surreal adornment designed to become part of the face itself.
Handcrafted from a refined constellation of pearls, the composition brings together luminous AAA-lustre Akoya pearls, delicate freshwater Keshi pearls and a singular South Sea pearl. Their differing scales, surfaces and natural tones create a carefully balanced dialogue between delicacy and presence.
The smallest Keshi pearls, measuring approximately 3–5 mm, introduce a fine, organic texture. They meet AAA-lustre Akoya pearls of approximately 4.5–6.5 mm, before culminating in the exceptional volume of a 9–10 mm South Sea pearl.
A delicate Pearl Drop Charm is attached to the composition, adding a final suspended element of movement and light. The charm extends the sculptural language of the piece beyond the face, creating a subtle counterpoint to the pearls tracing its contours.
Set along a 925 sterling silver chain with a refined gold-plated finish, the piece follows the natural contours of the face. At 71 cm, its length allows the composition to travel across the bridge of the nose and behind the ears, creating a suspended line of pearls that transforms the face into a living canvas.
Rather than functioning simply as an accessory, the Face Chain sits somewhere between jewellery, sculpture and couture. The pearls and drop charm move with the wearer, catching the light with every breath, turn and gesture.
Each pearl is naturally individual. Variations in shape, surface, lustre and character are intrinsic to the materials and form an essential part of the piece.
